This episode, we cover Grendel: Devil By the Deed, the seminal comic of Matt Wagner’s long-running Grendel series. And by “we,” that includes the newest addition to this podcast, Brendan Mead! You can look forward to hearing him as a permanent fixture of the Sequential Smarter triumvirate! We dissect probably the most graphically intense and visually captivating comic of the podcast so far, as well as remind ourselves about bad ’90s movies and haircuts.
And no, despite the teaser, Billy’s not being replaced. He just had to sit this week out due to being too busy. If you think that’s a lame reason, please comment below and I’ll make sure he gets them!
We are definitely recording the next episode this week! Had to make some slight adjustments for tomorrow though. What kind of adjustments? You’ll find out soon, but here’s a hint to get those speculative minds going…
Like a goddamn batarang, the Sequential Smarter podcast is back! This week, we talk about The Dark Knight Knight Strikes Agains, self-styled as DK2, Frank Miller’s crazy sequel to his legendary The Dark Knight Returns. And we do mean crazy, and not necessarily in a good way.
Love it or hate it, this is a comic worthy of discussion and your podcast hosts dive headlong into Miller’s incoherent but fascinating polemic about…something.
Just wanted to give a quick update on the status of the next episode, since I know it’s been a month since the last one. We actually did record an episode on Phonogram two weeks ago, but I forgot to save the file like an idiot. So much for the “smarter” part of this podcast, huh? I feel extra bad because we had a very fruitful discussion on the comic that’s now lost forever to time. We might revisit it down the line though, perhaps with the second or third miniseries
But fear not, we are planning to do another episode on a new comic next week! We were originally planning to do it this week, but due to an exciting new development, it has been pushed off to next week. I promise it’ll be worth the wait and I’m very excited for the next episode.
In the meanwhile, here’s a sneak preview for what’s in store. Stay tuned!
Join your hosts Eric Wong and Billy Youngblood in their new podcast as they attempt to have an intelligent conversation on comics. This episode, we go in-depth into The Nightly News by Jonathan Hickman, as well as Objectivist gorillas and racist Julia Roberts movies! Oh, and we still don’t have a name for this podcast yet, so comment below with a suggestion!
